Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Sadie Renwick
“You might not know but Sheffield City Council has just declared a Climate Emergency and is working towards becoming a zero-carbon city by the end of the next decade,” says Sadie Renwick by way of explaining the inspiration behind her current work-in-progress: a massive canvas about the hierarchy within nature called ‘Top of the Food Chain’. (You can see a detail of it here.) “There’s an arrogance with human beings because we are the ‘alphas’ in the animal world. I find this really interesting.”
Renwick is an artist who is just as happy working with ceramics and performance art as she is with painting; the important part of her work being the act of creation itself. “I’m not particularly clued up as to what ‘sells well’ because that's not what concerns me as an artist. I'm more concerned with the search for meaning, as we all are. However, the more work I make, the more I realise that I'm happiest when I admit that nothing means anything.”
Take the opportunity to view Sadie’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics brought to you by Studio 2021 mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
