Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Victoria Dawes
“I use red earthenware; the most abundant clay on the earth’s surface. Through its formation process the clay travels through glaciers, rivers and streams; breaking down and picking up oxides and detritus that provide its rich colour and low firing properties,” explains Victoria Dawes about the very thing that all true makers are passionate about: raw materials.
“Having emigrated between England and New Zealand at an early age, and then choosing to travel and study in the Upper Midwest of America, I feel connected to earthenware as a material effected and formed by the places it has passed through.”
For those who are already a member of the Victoria Dawe’s fan club, she will be showing a series of platters called ‘Slip Sketches’ at Art in the Home their surface patterns a direct connection to her love of ‘romanticised nostalgia for people, places and traditions’.
Take the opportunity to view Victoria’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre.
