Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Holly Clifford
“I have two different ranges of work: my resin and silver jewellery inspired by nature and great painters such as Monet and Klimt and then there’s the contour map-inspired pieces,” explains Clifford of her burgeoning contemporary metalworking empire. “For Art in the Home, I will be making a piece of wall art and some jewellery from the Contour Map Collection range.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with it let us explain: Clifford cuts the contour lines from a topographic map of a specific location (“your family home, your favourite holiday destination, the place you first met your love, the landscape you grew up loving”) into a sheet of metal (usually oxidised copper) and then lifts the contour lines to replicate the peaks and troughs of that area. The map can then be personalised with tiny granulated or gemstone markers that pin-point special places to create a miniature wearable landscape. “I love it when jewellery has some sort of story or meaning attached to it. This collection is very much about creating truly personal pieces that hold a lot of significance for the wearer.”
