Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Janet Wass
“It’s about the beauty of organic patterns found in both natural and man made objects,” says jeweller Janet Wass whose work is directly inspired by her first love: photography. Wass zooms in on her photograms of sugar crystals, rose petals, and feathers, and then uses laser-cutting and photo-etching alongside traditional jewellery making techniques to transfer the magnified patterns onto acrylic and silver for her range of bold cuffs and plaque necklaces.
For Art in the Home Wass has taken her concept and jewellery-making skills one step further to create wall art. “These are patterns taken from a photogram of Wundaweb,” explains Wass of the silver plated-copper and acrylic panels that form a triptych. “As you can see it’s been a real creative journey.”
Take the opportunity to view Janet’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
