Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Myfanwy Williams
Whether by chance or design, the artist Myfanwy Williams is cheerily colour-coordinated with her work on the afternoon that we meet in her Exchange Place studio. “Colourful expressionism is an important part of my art. The power of colour should never be underestimated,” says Williams whose fuchsia and indigo get-up seems only to intensify the two paintings that dominate her workspace: Violet Light (to the left) and Distance (above on the right).
Williams’ abstract work engulfs the viewer in a purple haze; the forms within it seeming to loom towards you like the swell of open ocean waves. “I love all things to do with the sea and the distance. I’ve travelled a lot,” explains the artist who grew up in Zambia and whose childhood was spent sailing around the coast of Africa. “I love the idea of looking down at the landscape from above”. It comes as no surprise that Williams is an artist of international repute: last year her work was shown in Paris, London, Athens and … Sheffield.
Take the opportunity to view Myfanwy’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
