Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Michael Borkowsky
“My background is actually in fine art/painting but I was always interested in fragrance. I investigated how to translate still life paintings into a fragrance experience by using food to make paints,” explains ‘Perfumer of the People’ Michael Borkowsky who then hit upon the idea of making perfume that acted as a ‘portrait’ of other artists. “I start by talking to the artist about why they make art and then that information is translated into a perfume that captures their essence.”
For Art in the Home Borkowsky will be creating a scent trail around the Kommune exhibition space, showcasing a range of fragrances made from the essential/fragrance oils of house plants. “You might not think that house plants have a fragrance but when you capture botanical extracts from, say, flowering succulents and cacti, they have their own distinct perfume.”
Look out for Borkowsky’s Apothecary-like bottles and reed diffusers, as well as announcements about his workshop at Art in the Home.
