Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Lianne Mellor
On the afternoon that we meet the chipper Lianne Mellor in her Exchange Place studio, she is literally beaming from ear to ear: one of her paintings has received a special framing job by fellow Yorkshire Artspace artist Henk Littlewood. “It’s been framed with a piece of Sheffield-grown olive ash that was about 300 years-old and died of natural causes,” explains the artist of the finishing touch to her study of rustic vase, meadow flowers and gourds.
“I’m interested in preserving simple domestic scenes and treasuring those moments so a lot of what I paint is from my own house or the allotment — I love growing vegetables and things.” Mellor’s deliberately ‘flat’ style of painting gives her work a graphic edge that feels modern, just like her ‘Photograph of a Painting of a Photograph’ project that turns a ‘domestic scene-selfie’ into a painting that is then hung near the original corner/wall in question. Clever huh?
Take the opportunity to view Lianne’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics brought to you by Studio 2021 mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
