Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Charlotte Tollyfield
Yorkshire Art Space is home to some of the nation’s most respected silversmithing big wigs but the one to watch is Charlotte Tollyfield. With her contemporary approach to design (bold geometrics are a recurring theme) and her undoubted skill as a craftswoman, Tollyfield’s work is the very definition of contemporary luxe. Those of us can’t afford a pair of her sterling silver octagonal candlesticks (£2800) or her rocking whiskey tumblers (£700) worry not: her ‘Circa’ copperware range of homewares will be available to buy at Art in the Home.
“The range evolved from a set of 10 bowls that I made to commemorate 10 years of Yorkshire Art Space in copper and silver, while the idea of using textiles came from a friend who was working with felt,” explains Tollyfield of the orange or grey fabric that sits behind a layer of overlapping laser-cut circles. “The choice of colours was almost inherent from the beginning, echoing the Mid-Century era, and mirroring the concrete and brick environment of Sheffield whose skyline owes much to the Modernist era.” Single stem vases are priced between £160 - £180 while candle holders are £96 - £106.
Take the opportunity to view Charlotte’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics brought to you by Studio 2021 mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
