Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Louise Fairchild
“Apparently, they’re going to open up the river and plant a meadow right here,” says the artist Louise Fairchild as she out looks from her Exchange Place studio window to the view of what was once Castle Market below. “It’s all change here!” It’s something that Fairchild excitedly relates to having recently moved back from London where she lived for the past few decades. Not that she’s painting the locale just yet. “The paintings that I’m working on right now are from a series about the west coast of Ireland where a lot of my family live,” says Fairchild who grew up in the Peak District. “My interest is in the solitude and isolation of remote scenery and attempting to capture the mercurial nature of the light on the land and water.”
Fairchild’s predominantly large scale paintings (whose layers are built up with applications of translucent oil glazes and metallic pigment which catches the light) are the art equivalent of a deep tissue massage or meditation session, such is their ability to fill a space with a sense of tranquility. She nods knowingly. “Beauty is everywhere, isn’t it?”
Take the opportunity to view Louise’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre.
