Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Fem Sorcell
“My aim is to draw you into an ethereal and surreal world filled with feminine characters and creatures embellished with painterly botanicals and delicate line work,” says the multimedia, site-specific artist Fem Sorcell. “I take spaces that people may not see as beautiful and fill them with a new type of beauty inspired by nature.” With this in mind, you’re more likely to come across one of Fem Sorcell’s murals on the street, rather than in a sterile gallery environment, where her illustration style and use of spray paint, acrylic and watercolour mixed with layers of pattern has echoes of the tattooist’s craft.
“I take influences from nature, mythology, sacred geometry, comics and animation,” explains the artist of the pieces she is showing as part of Art in the Home: a selection of colourful works on paper (as seen here) and a gigantic wool rug printed with one of her trippy patterns.
Take the opportunity to view Fem’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
