Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Andrew Walker
The first thing that strikes you when you enter Andrew Walker’s Ceramic Studio is an air of calm and order. The striking lines and architectural touches that form many of his pieces are reflected in his very aesthetic and the way he approaches ceramic art.
“I love the free flowing nature of clay and yet I’m drawn into making very sculptural and industrial forms out of it. Architecture is all around us. Inside our homes, out on the street, in the office and even unseen underground - someone has thought about the details that surround our lives every day. A lot of my work reflects those details we might take for granted.”
There’s also an honesty and rawness to Andrew’s work with a lot of pieces remaining unglazed allowing them to reflect the core nature of their natural materials.
“I’ve always had a great appreciation of all things symmetrical but I also get excited by the imperfections created through fabrication. These details play a huge part in my process which allows for subtle natural differences in their construction. Ultimately I allow the viewer to gain insight into how some of my work is built.”
Take the opportunity to view Andrew’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre. Art in the Home is a selling exhibition of Mid-Century design classics brought to you by Studio 2021 mixed with the very best of Sheffield’s furniture makers, ceramicists and fine artists.
