Art in the Home Confirmed Artist - Nigel Frost
“In drawing, I am attempting to understand three-dimensionality in terms of shape, line and tone. I use drawing to negotiate and comprehend the visual world. I am attempting to make an objective record of what is seen. Each drawing is a response, made with self-imposed restrictions, to my concrete surroundings, to a chosen field of vision.”
Enjoying the immediacy of materials like pencil and charcoal but occasionally working in oils, Nigel’s way of ‘record making’ when it comes to creating portraits led to him being selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2008 and 2017. Working from real life and found images it’s the subjects themselves and his desire to communicate true reflections of those people with a commitment to honesty which most comes across in his pieces.
Take the opportunity to view Nigel’s work as part of our Art in the Home Exhibition from the 1st - 10th November 2019 at Kommune in Sheffield city centre.
